Cats are incapable of organizing their thoughts quite the way a human is. This cat probably doesn’t even realize what it’s looking at, let alone checking it.
Appears to me that this cat is preparing to engage in the very average cat hobby of swatting that pen around, thus causing it to be missing when the human wishes to use it.
Neither do they want to find out if you, or the people on the list, have been naughty or nice. Cats have no concept of morals and would therefore be poor judges of character performance.
Of course cats don’t check their lists twice. Checking something once is enough, checking it twice would be a waste of time, time much better used on sleeping and eating.
