Hair

Cats don’t know what mirrors are. This cat was probably just curious as to what it is.

YES THEY DO! Which is why they spend about a third of their lives grooming. However they don’t use mirrors to do this and they almost certainly never enter the Lacanian mirror-stage that allows them to recognise that it is their own reflection and not that of another cat (or just a confusing, moving, fuzzy shape)

Cats don’t know or care about psychology, neither do they know or care whether it can be considered science.

  5. Cats are much more concerned with how their hair feels than how it looks, as they do not have any sense of attempting to look good for any occasion or impressing those around them. They are fastidiously clean, but this is only tangentially related to the human concepts of cleanliness being tied to good hygiene and general appearance.

Fur. Hair continues to grow. Fur does not. Cats do not show self awareness so the mirror can have no purpose for the cat.

My cat can recognise herself in the mirror. In fact she likes to look at herself in the mirror.
