Trey is correct, that is not true. White cats with blue eyes are more likely to be deaf than other color cats, but not all of them are. Of white cats with one or two blue eyes, 60-80% are deaf; 20-40% have normal hearing.
Definitely not true… there are white cats with blue eyes that have normal hearing. However, as Canton said, white cats with blue eyes are more prone to genetic defects.
I find irony in the fact that fair-haired, blue-eyed being are genetically weakest. It’s a cute cat, nonetheless. And since it’s a picture, does its ability to hear matter?
I have an elderly cat — a black and white one with yellowish eyes — who has gone all or mostly deaf in her old age. She does okay in spite of that. Her meowing has just gotten louder since, you know, she can’t hear herself anymore.
Okay, to the person above me (I refuse to say YOUR name), what is wrong with you?! Do you realize how evil your name is and how wierd your comment is, especially with THAT name? People like you should get help.
And people like Shawna need to get a sense of humour.
No, not “all” cats with blue eyes and white hair are deaf. They’re just more prone to being deaf. Just like not “all” tri-coloured cats are female. Most tri-coloured cats are female; those that are male are sterile.
I’ve read that cats with one blue eye and one yellow eye are more likely to be deaf. Don’t know if it’s any more true that the statement about cats with two blue eyes being deaf. Just thought I’d pass it on.
You all is so bosssssie! all ya’ll white cats is racist as the kkk. errrbody knows them white cats make lynch mobs. Just sayin. I bet that cat’s in the klan. he looks like a member. Who cares whether or not it’s true, the real problem here is this cats klan. Who’s with me? eh? eh?
There’s not much to say about this, except that it’s sappy. And ‘Snowkit’ you’re awesome, and I’m probably the only one to notice your name from the Warriors series. Ichc[and Warriors] rocks!!!!
@Amee – heterozygous means “two different” ones. The problem with males is the Y chromosome is smaller, so if they have a mutation on the X, there might not be a corresponding Y bit to override it.
i know a ninja cat who is white furred and has blue eyes. he most definatly is not deaf his ability to hear his dinner (squirell, bird, mouse, kibble etc..) is scary!

All white cats may also be blind. They are prone to genetic defects.

Isn’t it mostly male cats as well, due to the two heterozygous chromosomes?

When I was a kid, I got a fun fact on the comic of a Dubble Bubble that said “most white, blue-eyed cats are blind”.

Cats with only one blue eye are often deaf in the ear on the same side as the blue eye, but can hear in the ear on the side with the non-blue eye.
