They definitely do have a concept of embarrassment! I’ve seen cats, many times, do something stupid and either pretend they meant to do it or that nothing at all happened.
I suppose it could be an evolutionary thing – not showing weakness or lack of control in order to keep territory/breeding rights etc.
Lou is right, cats DO have embarrassment. In fact, cats usually scratch their ears as a sign of embarrassment ^_^ If you dont believe me, google it. My dad used to have a cat like that, and he was sooo cute. Nice job
I have to agree with those who say cats do experience embarrassment. I have three cats; the middle one is a Maine Coon cross. I startled a loud (and I mean LOUD) fart out her one time and she turned to me with this look of utter humiliation on her face. I laughed so hard.
I call Did Not Do The Research on that. Cats DO know what “embarrasing” is in some manner. Why else would they suddenly stop and lick themselves after missing a leap or something they totally should have not failed at?
I was very pleased to find this website. I wanted to thank you for your time for this wonderful post!! I definitely enjoy reading it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you blog post.
I don’t suppose I’ve never read anything like this before. So nice to see somebody with some authentic thoughts on this subject. I really thank you for beginning it. This website is something that’s needed on the web, somebody with a little bit originality.
An interesting discussion is worth a comment. I believe that it’s best to write extra on this matter, it may not be a taboo subject but typically people are not sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
Cats always like to see who is coming, like once my cat stopped licking herself just to see if it was me coming and her tongue was sticking out.

Either way, the cat is cute

When my cat runs to grab a toy and misses, she always looks pretty embarrassed, and won’t look at anyone in the room.

Even the Cat Guide books tell us this.

Cats may get embarrassed, but I have never encountered one with a sense of shame. Little psychos.
