Cats “play” with toys to develop skills that would be useful for hunting and other survival techniques. In undomesticated felines, this play behaviour normally peters out as the cat enters adulthood.
Cats probably do not understand that this toy is supposed to look like a donut.
Due to their sharp sense of smell, they are probably not easily tricked by toys that look like food.
Also, this cat probably has an intelolerance to doughnuts and baked goods. Therefore this would not be an applicable toy, regardless of if it was really edible.
Of course cats *can* eat doughnuts, much the way that a goat *can* eat a tin can. However these things do not contain the nutrition elements necessary for a cat’s continued survival, and probably even contain things which could be harmful to the cat’s health, particularly their cardiovascular and digestive systems.
At Halloween when we have chocolet to give out to the trick-or-treats our cat gets the time of his life when no ones awake. In the morning when we wake up,theres some candy rapers on the floor along with chocolet crums.
My cat once ate a sack of powdered doughnuts from the kitchen table, and if a human or dog came near him he began growling very low. That’s because when I was a poor student I fed him whatever I was eating instead of cat food. I got a grilled chicken salad one time and gave him the leftovers thinking he would only eat the chicken. He ate the lettuce, croutons, olives, and all! And he killed many mice. RIP Deezl.
Are you kidding me!? Every time we get any kind of doughnut, my mom has to break one apart and give it to our cat. And guess what? She licks the plate clean! Even though my mom only gives her the inside of the doughnut, she still eats everything on her plate!
Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do some research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such fantastic information being shared freely out there.

My grandma had a cat named Felix. Felix LOVED doughnuts. He would beg for them like a puppy.

You’re right; that is not a real doughnut! But I did have a cat that liked to eat doughnuts, so surely SOME cats eat doughnuts.

Yeah, and Homer Simpson ate 34 of those “toys” before he realized they weren’t real donuts.

They do, actually. Mine was really interested in the one I brought home, I had to break a piece off for her.
