If a person were to view the bag from a standing position, the cat would indeed be hidden, but as the camera is on the ground facing the cat, the cat is indeed visible from this angle.
This cat is actually hiding quite as well as could be expected, given its juggling of two conflicting priorities: hide, and also see what is happening outside the bag.

This cat is probably not hiding. But they do like to get into small spaces. Perhaps it thought this bag would be a nice place for a nap.
