Kittens need to sleep for about 16 hours per day and they often choose to sleep even more. They are also not found of performing tasks for the benefit of others. And money is meaningless to them. They would make terrible employees.

I agree with SnazzyCactus and Crabmaster, cats sleep a lot and sometimes they sleep in random places and if they work they indeed would be terrible employees, but cats are really cute.

If the telephone could be said to be the job (i.e., if the kitten owner’s entire job is to call people or answer the phone), then the kitten is indeed sleeping on the job. This is, however, a relatively unlikely scenario.

The shape of the phone is kitten-sized and bed-like so the kitten has chosen to sleep on it. And furthermore, cats don’t work for they believe that they are rulers of everything and we, the owners, are servants.

A telephone would be no use to a cat, as cats cannot talk, or understand the Hindu-Arabic numberals on the keypad of the phone. The fact that the cat is sleeping on a phone is purely coincidental. Cats often fall asleep wherever they feel tired.

Neither is this a statement about being put on hold, although an entertaining thought. It is a cat, that is asleep.

The cat is not asleep on the job. The cat is asleep on the phone.

When this phone rings, the kitten will certainly wake up very abruptly.

If the owner named the phone “The Job” then the cat would be asleep on the job. The real question however, is why would you name your phone?

A cat needs a job like a fish needs a bicycle.

Cats can unknowingly contribute to a business or corporation if a human takes their picture and puts it in a cat calendar for sale or sends it to an entertainment website like this one that generates revenue through advertising.

Cats can also unknowingly contribute to certain businesses by roaming about the store and giving customers a fuzzy sense of calm. This works best in small bookstores and pet food stores. It would be disastrous, however, in yarn shops and sushi restaurants.

Or perhaps a cat can unknowingly contribute to certain businesses by being sold in a pet store
