Some cats need bathing regularly. I've bathed all three of my cats when they get excessively dirty or get into something that will hurt them if they clean it off themselves. Leaving toxic substances on is more cruel than bathing. Also, I recently showered my oldest. He's old, he's over weight and can't clean himself properly. I used to shower my mom's dog because it was easier than bathing. I thought the same might be true for my old guy - he's the same size as a small dog. It actually worked out quite well and was much easier than a bath would have been. It’s not cruel to bath or shower a cat. Some cats need bathing regularly.
