and yes, cats get intoxicated from alcohol. Like humans they have no knowledge how much is enough so don’t leave alcohol for them to drink or otherwise you risk a cruel death to your pet when its liver ceases to function.
Much like the related post regarding overfeeding, and the one regarding cheeseburgers, cats can, of course, drink alcohol. This does not mean that they should, and it is most certainly unhealthy. It’s poisonous to humans, as well, but at least we have the cognitive capacity to recognize that and ignore it. Cats do not know about liver damage or public intoxication laws.
When I was coming up we had a cat named Sydney who would get into my dad’s beer at every opportunity. He made up a song about him (sung to the Schlitz jingle popular in the 60s): “There’s just one Syd, yeah, yeah/nothing else comes near/If you don’t watch out/he’ll drink your beer.”

I’ve found most cats will drink alcohol if it is mixed with orange juice. I have yet to see if this will intoxicate the cat.
