It appeared to me that certain affiliates and friends of mine were being forced to say quite absurd things, perhaps under the influence of a certain unforgivable curse. It seems that the Ministry has cleared things up now.
Aristocats is an animated cartoon, where many incidents are often mere coincidences, figments of imagination, or stuff put in there to enhance the viewing experience.
“Play” needs to be defined…I don’t think walking across the keys is playing.
BTW, my folks had a cat that liked classical music, especially mozart. When it heard mozart, it went near the speaker and put its right ear against the speaker and looked really happy. It had been a stray cat before and also appeared to understand simple phrases (although if you’ve owned cats and understand what limitations they have in producing sound you might have noticed that cats sometimes try to mimic simple human words).
Yeah, there’s a difference between walking on the keys and sitting on a stool repeatedly hitting the keys with front paws, deliberately changing pitch and tempo. It’s not really music as we understand it but Nora seems to have some idea of what she’s doing.
While cats are not human thay can still “play” (do an activity not directly linked to survival, as eating and procreating are) Cats will walk accross a piano to make the “noise” or sound come. My cats coming running is a ball with a bell in it is rolled accross the floor. Is this making music? Define music. Since no two humans can quite agree on what is or is not music, I am not going to make an assumption on what a cat is thinking when he or she bats at a piano. repeatedly.
And just so you know MOST cats have 5 toes on the front and 4 toes on the rear feet. Except for polydactals who have more. My cat Sandy had 6 all the way around and picked up her ball with her opposable “thumb”.
What is music? I am a former musician and present linguistic. Anything that expresses an emotion, thought, idea, etc., is doing so in a pre-established format, even if taking innovative liberties (that’s how music and language evolve). Nothing more, nothing less.
I would just like to say that my cat would always sit on the piano bench when I would play and/or practice. A few times, he tickled those ivories with me.
I would like to express my displeasure that you should stir up possibly long-oppressed emotions and grief by impersonating such a widely known figure such as Dumbledore. The real Albus has been dead for a dozen years. Shame on you.
Good joke Which of these things don’t belong: A tuna, a lobster, or a Chinese guy run over by a truck? The tuna. The other two are crustaceans.

Actually some do. I have a minature piano (about a foot tall) and often one of my cats stands on her hind legs and ‘plays’ it with her front paws. If it were a one time experience, I would just dismiss is, but this happens regularly.
Hasnt ANYBODY seen aristo cats? of course cats can play the piano< they can also sing, dance and play the trumpet………
EVERYBODY! EVERYBODY! EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A CAT!!!!
Has anyone introduced a cat to a theremin? now that could be of great potential interest.
Sure cats play piano; some of them with Intent; they don’t *have* to be Rachmaninov at it.
Where did all the Harry Potter comments go…?

Someone should have told Norah that cats “don’t play the piano”. [Norah is the cat that was on the Today Show this morning ~ playing the piano ...]

Actually, cats DO play the piano. However, they are not particularly good at it. See Nora: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0zgQAp7EYw

You also do not need opposable digits to play the theremin.

Many cats do in fact play the piano — whether they walk across the keys intentionally or not is up for debate.

I’ve always wondered how and why Nora does that.

But some cat’s CAN play piano!!
They don’t need opposable thumbs. Their paws are small enough to press down a key.
